Helping Machines Talk to Machines: FieldView™ Compatibility

In high school, I drove a 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. Did this fine-looking cruiser have power windows? No. A backup camera? Of course not. Lane assistance? Sadly, it was about 30 years too old. However, this aging American muscle car did have a brand-new, touchscreen radio. By opening up the old tape deck, I could connect this new piece of technology to a car that had been built decades prior. In many ways, I do the same thing for FieldView. I work with a team of specialists to connect both cutting-edge and classic farming technology to FieldView. 

FieldView is focused on helping you get the most out of the product. The software industry is notorious for investing in technology and for considering customer support an afterthought. Our product is different. We’re making FieldView accessible to as many farmers as possible. The platform is already compatible with 80% of modern machinery in the Corn Belt. I’m dedicated to that last 20%. Regardless of brand name or age, the leading platform in digital farming should be compatible with more operations.

Meet the Test Team

We’re always finding new ways to connect FieldView to more planters, sprayers and combines. That has required the creation of a team of electrical engineers, software developers and farmers like you. 

We test equipment that needs a workaround. Building custom harnesses, ordering adapters, finding ways to split signals coming from your equipment sensors or tapping into the monitor inside the cab. We build, test and come to your farm and show you how to connect your equipment to FieldView. New models are added every year — so if you haven’t checked in a while, check again. We might have solved it.  

Become a Rainbow Farm

There’s a building on my own family farm that we call the “Rainbow Shed.” It earned this name by holding equipment from a variety of different manufacturers. Our tractors, combines, planters and applicators are different colors, different ages and use different technology. The harder I work, the more freedom all of us farmers have when it comes to equipment choice. If you see a good deal on a tractor, you can buy it no matter the logo on the grill. If it’s compatible with FieldView, it’s easy to integrate a different brand of farming equipment into your operation.  

Older Equipment Can Be More Compatible

As odd as it might sound, sometimes an older piece of equipment is more compatible with FieldView than a brand new one. If the electrical components within the tractor are in good condition, we can work with that. This is especially the case when it comes to sprayers and spreaders. Sometimes older means simpler. Our customer support team can help to find the right adaptor or harness to connect even your most dated piece of equipment.
