Soaring fertilizer prices are on every farmer’s mind going into planning for 2022. And many are struggling with how to make it work with tighter margins. FieldView™’s new tools help every ounce of fertilizer go the extra mile.
At Climate, we believe our best ideas come from our customers. We heard concerns about rising fertilizer costs and got to work to help farmers make the most of their inputs. In October, we launched two new scripting functions that make fertilizer and crop protection applications more efficient and easier than ever.
In the past, creating custom prescriptions was time consuming and imprecise. FieldView recently introduced automatic zone creation, making scripting even easier. Farmers can simply upload a single scouting field health image and then edit up to 12 automatic zones to fit their operational needs.
By automating this initial mapping process, FieldView frees farmers up to focus on the unique needs of their zones. With more precise zones, farmers can confidently and efficiently write prescriptions to make better fertilizer investments. FieldView also lets you run what I call, “what-if scenarios.” What if I pay x per gallon instead of y? Change the number on your script to see. What if I apply more to zone one and less to zone four? You can fine-tune to changes in the seasons ahead with FieldView.
In the summer of 2020, we launched a manual crop protection scripting tool that allows farmers to select a single product for application. After a season in use, we learned that our farmers wanted to add a tank mix function.
So we upgraded the crop protection scripting to give farmers more options and more control. Farmers can now identify and record up to eight crop protection products in a tank mix when creating a script. This new functionality allows farmers to mix herbicides, fungicides and other protection products according to the needs of their fields.
Whether it’s due to ease of use, accuracy, customizability or cost savings, FieldView’s automatic zone creation and tank mix production selection capabilities have seen a wide increase in usage since their launch in late October.
And while FieldView’s scripting functionality has become more robust, it has also become more farmer-friendly. Better automatic zoning and crop protection empowers farmers to achieve significantly more complex tasks with significantly more ease.
Before FieldView, farmers often had to apply the same amount of fertilizer and other products across the entire field. Now, farmers can write scripts tailored to zones – giving them the power to apply just the right amount and make the most of their investment. In a time where fertilizer prices continue to rise, this can make a huge impact on the bottom line.
Farmers can also make better investment decisions based on their FieldView data. With FieldView, farmers can see how effective their products are, how they perform when applied at different rates and how they compare to competing products. These data points help farmers understand where and why certain products work best, informing investment decisions and saving money.
Now well into planning season, this is the best time to begin exploring these new, cutting-edge new capabilities for your fields and your bottom line.
